Conditions
A foreigner who has entered the Kurdistan Region on an official visa through a border crossing or airport has the right to extend his visa for thirty (30) days.
The foreigner should be tested for communicable diseases (HIV, B and C virus hepatitis, malaria, bilharzia) during the first extension.
A foreigner can apply for a visa extension up to three (3) times, and for labor companies the right to extend a visa for foreign labor is two (2) times after that which he must apply for a residency card.
The foreigner applying for the visa extension must have no criminal record in the Kurdistan Region.
Foreigners must visit the relevant residency Directorate before the expiration of their visa, in order to extend their visa, otherwise they will be subject to a late penalty of (20,000) twenty thousand dinars per day.

According to Directive No. (1) of 2021, the following guidelines for issuing electronic visas and residency permits in the Kurdistan Region:
- (100,000) one hundred thousand dinars for visa extension for each time.
- (10,000) ten thousand dinars administrative fees.
- (20,000) Twenty thousand dinars late penalty for each day.

Procedures
The foreign visits the relevant residency department according to geographical boundaries.
He visits the Visa Extension Room in order to submit an application, visa extension and forward his name to the Central Laboratory electronically for health test.
After twenty-four hours of test, the results are returned electronically to the relevant residency department. The foreign visits the visa extension room to prepare the visa extension form and pay fees, at the same time the visa extension stamp is issued to his or her passport.
